HC rejects amendment to Land Reformation Act

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government again received a major setback to the amendment it had brought to the land reformation act as high court partially rejected the amendment regarding the handing over of  excess lands. The court rejected the amendment to handover title deeds for excess land up to 10 acres.

Hereafter, the amendment will be applicable only to four acre land registered under the name of a private individual.

The court pointed that no concession can be given to the land its owner hands over to his or her relatives. It was Finance Minister K M Mani who had brought the amendment in 2005 to facilitate the sale of excess land.

Meanwhile, Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash said that the court order is not a setback to the government. The government will take further steps after receiving the copy of the court order.
