KOCHI: A division bench of the Kerala High Court will Thursday pass an interim order on government’s plea seeking a stay on single bench’s order cancelling bifurcation of wards before the local body polls.
The government had informed the court that only 86 days are enough to conduct the polls if the order of the bench is stayed. A bench led by Chief Justice Ashok Bhooshan said the argument on government’s plea will continue on September 3.
Meantime, the division bench said the court is not intervening in election commission’s authority to conduct the polls. Whatever be the interim order, it will not affect the commission’s functioning. At what time the polls should be held is the constitutional obligation of the commission, the court pointed. If anybody intervenes on it then can approach the court, the division bench said.
