KOCHI: The rift between the state government and the election commission over the local body polls has turned worse. The election commission Tuesday informed the court that the state government is fully responsible for the delay in conducting the polls. They told the court that it is impossible to conduct the polls after dividing the wards again.
If the polls are to be held in 2015, the arrangements should have started before three years. The commission had asked the state government to start preparations for the polls from 2012. However, the government never pay heed to it. A commission was entrusted for the division of wards only this May. Division of wards and conducting the polls is impossible again. If polls are held on the basis of bifurcation of wards it will take at least six months. Meantime, the government informed the court that polls can be conducted in 86 days.
