KANNUR: The mass killing of stray dogs at Poozhathi panchayat in Kannur, by injecting cyanide, is sparking a controversy.
The panchayat authorities decided to kill the dogs following complaints on the disturbance of them. They were killed after catching them with the help of dog snatchers.
Almost forty dogs were killed by injecting cyanide in four days. The dogs were buried in places belonging to the panchayat. The authorities stopped the act after animal lovers came forward with protests.
Union Minister Menaka Gandhi had directed Kerala not to kill them. She had warned action if directions are violated.
