Jagathy’s condition satisfactory, says medical bulletin

Sunday, March 18, 2012: The condition of veteran Malayalam film actor, Jagathy Sreekumar, who is undergoing treatment in a private hospital here after he met with an accident last week, was satisfactory, doctors attending on him said.
A medical bulletin issued by the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences said the actor’s “general condition” was satisfactory. As a part of the process of removing him from ventilator permanently, he was removed from ventilator support for a long time yesterday and was breathing on his own but it was reconnected so as not to get him tired.
The process will continue today also, it said. A tracheotomy procedure was done this morning “to avoid uneasiness (to him) by connecting and disconnecting ventilator tubes in his mouth,” it said. “There is improvement in the level of consciousness and recovery is likely to take some more time.”
The 61-year-old actor, who was on his way to Kodagu in Karnataka to shoot for a Malayalam film ‘Idavappathy’, was seriously injured when his car rammed into a road median at nearby Tenhipalam on March 10. Oscar-winning sound recordist Resul Pookutty was among the film personalities who visited Sreekumar today.
