Tvm: Elephant tusks found abandoned near temple premise

Friday, March 23, 2012: The police have recovered a bag containing three elephant tusks found abandoned near the premises of a temple in Nedumangad on Friday morning.
The local residents, who spotted the bag near the entrance of the Sri Muthariamman temple at 11.30 in the morning, immediately informed the matter to the police.
Few days back some elephant tusks had gone missing from the Palode Forest range office. Even though the local police had begun an investigation into the incident they weren’t able to find any vital clues in connection with the case.
It was alleged that the elephant tusks were stolen from the range office with the help of the officials. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the tusks that was found abandoned near the temple were similar to those stolen from the range office.
A team of Forest department officials and finger print experts examined the tusks.
