Many activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) have been found operating under a new face and such persons are under the constant watch of the internal security wing of the state’s Intelligence Department, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan informed the Assembly on Wednesday.
He also said that seven cases involving SIMI have been referred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Responding to various queries of A P Abdullakutty, Sunny Joseph, M M Vahid, Palode Ravi and E K Vijayan during the Question Hour in the day’s session of the House, the Home Minister maintained that the activities of the ‘moral police’ which had lifted its head in various places of the state will be dealt with sternly.
When Opposition deputy leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan asked for a clarification on Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s statement that five terrorist organisations are operating in the state and one is even running a newspaper, Thiruvanchoor said that as the Home Minister, there are matters which can be revealed and those which should be held back.
At this point, the Speaker intervened and asked the minister only to disclose what can be revealed.
