THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a discrimination in making DGP Jacob Thomas the managing director of police housing construction after removing him from the post of fire force chief. He was removed from the post of fire force chief in September following continuous pressure from the flat mafia. He was then appointed as the managing director of police construction. However, he fled abroad without taking over the charge in protest against the act. Thomas, who returned from abroad today took over the post of managing director of housing construction. The chairman post was not given to him. There are hints that the government is trying to give that post to someone else.
ADGP Anil Kanth had served as the chairman of Housing Corporation.
Thomas had removed the power given to high officials giving NoC without examining the rules for flats. A sub panel was formed to take main decisions. A notice was issued to almost 20 flats under construction.The NoC of some was frozen. The government was under pressure to remove him.
Meantime, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said Thomas has the complete charge of Construction Corporation.The errors in the order released giving him the MD post is the reason for the problems.The renewed order will be released soon, he said.
Meanwhile, after assuming charge, Jacob Thomas said there are 77 major flats who have not complied with the criteria. Notices were given when Thomas was the chief of fire force. However, he said that he was shifted and so was not able to take further steps, he said.
