Saswathikananda's death: More swamis demand further probe

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More swamis attached to Sivagiri mutt have come out demanding further probe into the mysterious death of Swami Saswathikandanda. The late swami’s close friend, Swami Sivananda, has said inquiry should be conducted into the death. “I have heard that Thushar Vellapally had assaulted the swami when both were in a foreign country. But, the swami enjoyed the support of a group of swamis,” said Sivananda, who had earlier approached the Supreme Court, seeking probe into the death.

Sookshmananda and Guru dharma prachara sabha secretary Swami Guru Prasad also have come up with a demand for further probe into the death. “Earlier we didn’t have any doubt but the present revelations instil several doubts in our mind. And therefore, further investigation is needed,” Sookshmananda said.

Saswathikananda’s sister Shantha Kumari has also sought a CBI probe into the death. “Thushar Vellapally and some inmates in the Sivagiri mutt might have had a role in the death. There is no chance for Saswathikananda’s drowning as he knew swimming,” she said.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said “if there is anything new in the allegations raised by Biju Ramesh, it will be probed. The crime branch had completed the probe into Swamiji’s death and had submitted a report.”
