Adhiti murder: Two 3 yr jail term for father, step-mother

KOZHIKODE: In the case relating to the incident in which 3-year old Adhiti Namboothiri died after she was harassed and physically abused by her father Subramanyan Namboothiri and step-mother Devika alias Ramlath, the couple has been sentenced to three years in jail. Kozhikode First Class Additional Sessions Court, while pronouncing the sentence, also asked the father to pay a fine of Rs One lakh.  

Judge A Shankaran asked the father to pay the fine to Adhiti’s brother Arun Namboothiri. The court, however, said the murder charge could not be proved beyond doubt.

Adhiti, the daughter of Bilathikulam temple priest Subramanyan Namboothiri died on April 30, 2013. She was the first standard student of BEM school. She was admitted to a private hospital in the night of April 30 in the name of epilepsy.   

The death happened, when she was being taken to Medical College hospital for expert treatment. “In the police investigation, it was found that she had died due to severe physical abuse. Adhiti’s body had wounds all over due to suspected beating. Even her private part had burns caused perhaps by boiled water. The police had also got evidence on severe physical abuse meted out to her for about three months.
