Blast in Malappuram quite serious, special team to probe

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A team led by narcotic cell DySP T P Prakash will probe the bomb explosion at the Malappuram civil station, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the assembly. Though the blast in Malappuram is an isolated incident, it is seen seriously, Pinarayi said while replying to the notice for the adjournment motion seeking a discussion on the issue.

Pinarayi said a move is on to find those behind the blast. The cardboard box recovered from the spot is being examined. It may have been placed there to mislead the police. No details have been recovered about the Base Movement. Their links with any other banned organization is also being examined. A joint fight is needed against terrorism, he said.

Meantime, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said the probe should be made more effective. Banned terrorist organizations are trying to spread terror among the people. Though speaker denied permission for the motion following chief minister’s reply, Chennithala said we are not staging a walkout.
