Corrupt may escape from law, says Chandy

KANNUR: Those involved in corruption are cutting their own branch they are sitting, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. They may escape from the hands of law, he said. Inaugurating a function in the district, he said the faith in the minds of the people is likely to be lost.

The strength of democracy is the faith of the people and if that is destroyed, then there is no existence. Though everybody says they are against corruption, people will not believe it. The number of political leaders who practice what they preach is dipping, he said.

The government will take over the Pariyaram Medical College, he later told reporters. Steps will be taken as soon as the collector’s report on the college including the assets and liabilities are obtained. Kannur district collector P Balakiran is preparing a comprehensive report on the number of employees, qualification and the college. A special team has been formed to assess everything. The panel includes cooperative health and revenue departments. The study which started two months back will be completed soon, he said.
