Palakkad defeat: Report handed over to CM, action recommended

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The report of the UDF’s sub panel, who investigated the defeat of M P Veerendra Kumar, Janata Dal (U) candidate in Palakkad Lok Sabha polls, was handed over to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

Action was sought against DCC president C V Balachandran, central election committee convenor and KPCC secretary C Chandran, P Balagopal, who was in charge of the election committee office and P C Baby, charge of the Attappady sector. The congress leadership has to take a decision in taking action against the leaders mentioned in the report.  Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had assured Veerendra Kumar to take action after getting the report. The next UDF meet will discuss the report.

Though the UDF commission with R Balakrishna Pillai as the chairman started the investigation, the probe was later completed by a team led by UDF convenor P P Thankachan as the former left the Right Front in between. Though congress leaders including DCC president were found guilty, the commission decided not to mention anybody’s name in the report. However, as Socialist Janata wanted to mention the names in the report, it was later included in the report.

The report raised suspicion on DCC president holding talks with noted industrialist V M Radhakrishnan during electioneering. The candidate’s capability was not raised within the people. Election things were not made available for campaigning. Vehicles were not arranged for activists to reach booths in places very far from Attappady.
