Engineering seat fraud: Couple’s home raided, evidence seized

KOCHI: Police on Tuesday raided the house of alleged con couple who fraudulently took about Rs 10 crore from many students after offering them engineering seats outside Kerala. Important evidence was seized from their flat during the raid. 

The raid took place in the morning at their Kochi flat. Many certificates and mark lists of students as well as the documents related to the lands they had bought and bank deposits were found by the officials.  

Meanwhile, the police said the accused had close links with medical seat fraud case accused Kavitha Pillai. The couple planned their move as per her instruction and if necessary, Kavita Pillai would also be questioned, after making her also a party in the case.

Ernakulum South Police on Monday arrested Jayesh J Kumar (37) and wife (27) from  Ranni Karikulam for allegedly cheating about 200 students of money to the tune of Rs 10 crore. They operated from an office from Panampilli Nagar after giving it the name Adithya Instituion to make it appear as Adithya Group of Engineering Institutions, which is Andhra’s prominent education centre.
