THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP has decided to field senior leader and former union minister O Rajagopal, as the party candidate from Aruvikkara. The decision was taken at the BJP core committee meet held Sunday morning.
A tough triangular fight will be witnessed in Aruvikkara. K S Sabarinath, son of former speaker G Karthikeyan is the UDF candidate and CPM leader and former minister M Vijayakumar is the LDF candidate.
The party Thiruvananthapuram district committee proposed the name of C Sivankutty. However, the party decided to field Rajagopal as they wanted a strong candidate.
Rajagopal obtained 2, 82,336 votes in the Lok Sabha polls held in 2014.
