KARUNAGAPALLY: Two fish workers from Tamil Nadu who were walking on the railway track were hit by a train and they died on the spot on Wednesday. Another worker sustained serious injuries.
It was Mangalapuram-Thiruvananthapuram Maveli Express that had knocked them down. However four persons escaped un hurt.
The dead have been identified as Felix (20) and Nixon (20) from Thirunelveli Nadapuram panchayat. Their friend Xavier who was with them has been admitted to Karunagapally Taluk hospital. The bodies have been shifted to mortuary after the inquest.
The accident happened Wednesday morning at around 5:30 am near Karunagapally Railway station. Seven-member fish workers were travelling from Nagercoil to Karunagapally. But as they dozed off in train, they didn’t get off the train at Kollam station. When they woke up, the train was at Karunagapally.
Later when the train stopped at a crossing, the fish workers got off the train and started walking towards Karunagapally station through the track. Their intention was to catch some other train to Kollam but they were hit by a train that came along that way then .
