THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a major development in the cabinet meeting today, the government has decided to raise the film award amount for the best director as well as the director of the best film to Rs 2 lakh.
The awards for the best comedy actor and the director of the best children’s film will be withdrawn. Award guidelines have also been modified to increase the award amount for the best actor/actress to Rs One lakh.
The best second actor/actress will become best character actor/actress. For the best child star there will be separate award for male child and female child. There will also be award for best script with independent creativity, best live sound and best sound design. All these categories will get Rs 50,000 each. Short fiction/documentary films will be excluded from the awards.
As the government order regarding the awards will be issued today, the film academy will issue notification in this regard tomorrow.
Other important instructions
Best second film’s director: Rs 1,50,000
Best children’s film director: Rs 1,00,000
Best second film’s producer: Rs 1,50,000
Rs 50,000 award amount for best story writer, script writer, cameraman, lyricist, music director, back ground music director, male/female playback singer, editor, art director, sound mixing, processing lab colourist, makeup man, costumes, female/male dubbing artiste and choreographer .
The producer and director of the best popular film with artistic value will get Rs One lakh each. The debutant/debutante director will get Rs One lakh.
Another important clause accepted by the cabinet was, when applying for the award, the applicant should furnish an affidavit on Rs 100 stamp paper, stating that jury committee’s judgement will not be questioned.
