Court bans vehicles in campuses, celebrations crossing limits

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court Tuesday banned vehicles of students from entering campuses. Only vehicles of the faculty and non-teaching staff would be allowed in the college. The order of Justice Chidambaresh has stated that all celebrations in colleges should end before 9 pm.

The court passed the main order banning vehicles from colleges while considering the plea filed by students ousted from the Thiruvananthapuram College of Engineering in connection with the death of a third year civil student during Onam celebrations. The division bench observed that celebrations in colleges are crossing the limits. The court has directed college managements to fine students for violating rules.

The student of CET died on August 20 during the Onam celebrations of the college. Students responsible for the incident were suspended from the college as per the investigation of a three-member panel of the college. The students approached the court seeking permission to enter college. However, the court did not intervene in that. The court directed to settle the complaint through the grievance cell of the college.
