Airport necessary, but not in Aranmula: CM

PATHANAMTHITTA: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said the LDF and CPM are not averse to a new airport coming up in the State.  But he said they would oppose Aranmula airport project.

The chief minister was inaugurating the new crop cultivation programme at the 58 acre land adjacent to the land earmarked for the Aranmula project.

“There will not be any stand from government favourable to the KGS group, who are the developers of Aranmula project. KGS group representatives had met me. Don’t think that the government will change its stand though the KGS group had met me and made certain claims and justifications. They will be again coming to meet me. Though I may not deny natural justice to anyone, what is needed is a development and protection of environment at the same time, ” he said

The chief minister also said that the LDF government would give more emphasis to agriculture and increasing farm products.  “The LDF government has kept its election promise of cultivating barren lands. Within a month of assuming office, the Agriculture Minister himself reached Aranmula and launched crop cultivation. The result of change brought in vegetable cultivation was visible during the Onam season; the vegetable price rise didn’t happen during the last Onam.”
