Registration-stamp paper fee will be reduced, says Thomas Isaac

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The fee for registration and stamp paper increased in the budget will be reduced, said Finance Minister Dr Thomas Isaac in the assembly. What is needed to replace it will be decided by the subject committee. The government is planning to restore many things including previous tax etc. The stamp duty of the partition and release deeds was increased by a fair price of 3%. The subject committee will now take a decision on things including introducing different rates in cities and villages.

During the tenure of the previous UDF government, the limit for the registration fee was taken off. However, following stiff obstruction by the opposition, the old fee was restored. The UDF is now raising the same demand. However, Finance Minister Dr Thomas Isaac is not ready to continue the style of the former government. Instead the minister may demand the subject committee to introduce one percent fee.
