Half of water pumped by Water Authority is lost

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Mathew T Thomas informed the Assembly that half of the water pumped by the Water Authority every day is lost.

“The water authority pumps 2517 million potable water every day. The exact quantity is not known since necessary metres are not installed in pumping stations. The difference between pumped water and metred water is 1258.5 million. The main reasons for this are misuse of water at public taps, leaks and looting of water. The PWD has been given special instruction to complete pipe-laying job before road maintenance work. For this, there should be proper coordination between PWD and Water authority,” the minister said.
