Nedumbassery human trafficking: CBI files charge-sheet against four SIs

KOCHI: The CBI has filed a charge sheet against the accused including certain policemen in connection with Nedumbassery human trafficking. The accused in the case include four SIs and one constable, totalling to nine convicts.

The accusation was that 32 persons had been trafficked via Nedumbassery airport. The incident came to light after the arrest of Chirayinkeezhu native Mubeena from Mumbai airport on July 6, 2016. On June, 11, 2012, she was sent to UAE with a fake passport and there she landed in a sex racket centre. She was forcefully presented before many customers seeking sex for money. She was later sent back to Kerala with Rs 15,000 and flight ticket.

The case was first handled by the Crime Branch and later the CBI took over the case. It was during the CBI investigation that they got the information that the racket, which also included emigration officials, took bribe and helped the people with fake documents to board the flight.

Police constable Ajeeb, who was earlier arrested in this connection, had given decisive information regarding the connection of certain high-rank officials in the case.

In the probe held on the source of Rs 55 lakh that was transferred to Ajeeb’s bank account, the role of top police officials and Travel Agency owners were evidentially established. The charge sheet has been filed based on those evidence.
