Journalist-Lawyer clash: Human Rights Commission files case against police

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Human Rights Commission has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident in which the police had registered a case against women journalist while, ironically, the journalists were at the receiving end of the attack.

Interestingly, the Commission also filed a case against the police for booking journalists for no credible reason. The Commission has ordered an official having DySp rank to probe the incident and submit a report within a month.

The media persons were attacked at Vanchiyoor high court recently when the court was considering a case against former minister E P Jayarajan. PTI corresponded J Ramakrishnan was caught by his shirt collar and pushed out of the court room. Lawyers turned towards woman journalists after beating journalist Prabhat Nair. Later police men whisked away media persons to a safe corner outside the court. Eventhere, they came under rain of stones.
