Time extended for correcting draft entries

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Food and civil supplies minister P Thilothaman informed the assembly that time has been extended upto November 5 for correcting the mistakes in ration cards. Time was earlier given till October 30. Taluk offices will function on holidays for receiving the applications.

Time was extended following the difficulties faced by the people as enough arrangements were not made in the Neyyatinkara taluk supply office for receiving applications of those whose names have been taken off from the BPL list.

The authorities published the draft list of the new ration card on October 20. It was directed to produce the specified application before 30th of those who have complaints.  The authorities were not able to reach to the public on time even after informing that the draft list would reach local self-governing bodies. This led to an unprecedented rush. Almost 5000 turned up with the applications at the taluk office in Neyyatinkara yesterday. The number of counters to receive the applications were also less.
