New govt circular imposes strong restriction on fire works

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Explosives department has imposed strong restriction on firework displays in the State. It has sent a new circular to Thrissur Pooram organisers, district collectors to ensure that crackers like ‘gund’ and ‘amit’ with high explosive power are not used in fireworks.

The decision was taken on the basis of studies conducted following the Kollam Poottingal fire tragedy. Among the explosives used in fireworks, Potassium Chlorate should not be used. The district collector should inspect the place where the firework will be held and he should give permission for it only after checking the safety aspects of the place. The fireworks should not be conducted between 6 am and 10 pm, according to the circular.
