Decision not taken to hike pension age, says Mani

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A decision has not been taken to hike the pension age, said Finance Minister K M Mani. A decision has also not been taken to introduce contributory pension for new government employees, informed Mani. It will be taken only after holding discussions with youth organisations.

Mani said this while replying to the adjournment motion moved by the opposition LDF seeking a discussion on the pension age hike. The opposition boycotted the assembly after the speaker denied permission for the motion.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said pension is an additional liability for the government and it is badly affecting developmental activities and chances for employment. The government has so far not taken a decision in raising the pension age.  A decision to introduce contributory pension will be taken only after holding talks.
