HC stays reclamation of Methran Kayal

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court Tuesday stayed the government’s order to reclaim 378 acres of Methran Lake in Upper Kuttanad for private tourism project. The court passed the order on the plea of Alexander, native of Vadavukkod, against the decision of the government. The court directed to continue the present situation till the case is resolved.

The high court approved petitioner’s argument that the land at Methran Kayal is cultivable. The petitioner argued that in the past there was cultivation in the lake and the land is still suitable for cultivation.

The revenue department gave permission to reclaim 378 acres of land to implement tourism projects for Rakkindo Developers Private Ltd and its 14 sister concerned firms at the lake premises.
