Raman arrives carrying Thidambu, pushes open entrance to Vadakkunnathan Temple

THRISSUR: As per the wish of Pooram lovers, Thechikottukavu Ramachandran, the tallest jumbo, arrived carrying the thidambu (idol) of Neythalakkavu Bhagavathy pushing open the entrance to the Vadakkunnathan Temple signalling the start of the Pooram, a large cultural festival held annually at the temple. The jumbo was paraded on strict conditions following controversies and arguments. This is the sixth time Thrissur’s dearest ‘Raman’ reaching for the ‘Poora Vilambaram’.

Accompanied by percussions, Ramachandran carrying the idol of Neythalakkavu Bhagavathy pushed open the entrance to the Vadakkunnathan Temple signalling the start of the pooram.

Ramachandran was brought to the Vadakkunnathan temple in a lorry. A massive crowd of Pooram and animal lovers were seen in the temple premises. A sea of humanity thronged the Thekkinkad Maidan when Ramachandran was brought and welcomed him calling ‘Raman Raman’.

Though uncertainty prevailed in parading him, district collector T V Anupama granted permission to parade him on strict conditions after the medical team declared him medically fit.
