Seven get life term for murder of CPM activist

KANNUR: Seven RSS activists convicted of murdering CPM activist Parakkandi Pavithran (52) of Namath Mukku have been awarded life imprisonment. A fine of Rs one lakh each has been imposed on them. The punishment was pronounced by Thalassery additional district sessions court (I).

Pavithran, who was a CPI (M) local committee member and Chittariparamba panchayat standing committee chairman, was hacked to death on November 6 in 2007 and died while undergoing treatment on November 10.

RSS-BJP activists C K Prashanth (36), Laijesh alias Laiju (39), Vineesh (35), Prashanth alias Muthu (39), K C Anil Kumar (51), Vijilesh (35) and K Mahesh (38) are the accused. Fourth accused Jyothish died soon after the incident.

After the murder, the family of Pavithran had shifted from Namath Mukku.
