MLAs call off indefinite fast, to stage outside assembly

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF decided to call off the indefinite fast staged by their MLAs in the assembly in protest against the fee hike in self-financing colleges. The fasting MLAs would be given a reception at the Martys Colum in the evening. The decision to end the fast was taken as the assembly would be convened again only on October 17. Some leaders had voiced to end the strike at the UDF parliamentary party meet held in the morning. Following that, the UDF meet was convened and decided to intensify the strike outside the assembly.

As part of intensifying the strike, a Janakeeya Sadasu would be organized in 14 districts on October 15 and 16. The sadasu will include students and teachers. A sadasu is organized to show the dirty game of the LDF Government, said opposition leader Ramesh Chenntihala at the press meet.

The strike staged by the opposition on the issue was a big victory, he said. The chief minister’s arrogance worsened the situation, he said. The UDF will convene on Oct 17 and decided the future programmes, he said.

Shafi Parambil and Hibi Eden were yesterday shifted to the hospital as their condition worsened yesterday. Instead V T Balram and Roji M John were on fast.
