Self-financing College fee: SC dismisses govt petition against managements

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has rejected the petition filed by the Kerala government against self-financing medical colleges in connection with high fees charged by them.

The rejected petitions were the ones filed against Karuna, KMCT and Kannur Colleges.  The court said it won’t be able to interfere in the issue in such a late stage as admission process would get over by today evening. The court said “let the high court decide on the matter”.

The high court had given permission to Kannur Medical College to take Rs 10 lakh and Karuna Medical College, Rs 7:45 lakh as monthly fee. On the other hand, the fee limit recommended by the James Committee was Rs 4.40 lakh. The government also argued in favour of this amount.
