Accused bites off Inspector’s ear

KOZHIKODE: An accused - held by the police for transporting spurious liquor in an auto rickshaw – has bitten off the ear of an Excise inspector. The inspector from District Narcotics Special Squad, K Satheeshan, has been admitted to Medical College hospital with serious ear injury.

The police have arrested K K Ranjith, 41, and C P Prakasan, 43, who were in the auto. As many as 240 bottles of Mahe liquor were also seized from them.   

The incident happened on Friday at around 9 in the morning when the police were conducting vehicle inspection at Koyilandi. The auto which sped past the officials was followed by the police team and brought to a halt. Ranjith, who managed to escape from the police clutches, was again chased and nabbed. Ranjith asked for bail and having denied that, he bit off the cop’s ear, in a fit of rage.

The police have arrested him and his accomplice and a case has been registered against under various sections.
