BANGALORE: Actress Ranjitha, who was once embroiled in a controversy with self-styled Godman Nithyananda of Bidadi ashram, accepted sainthood from the latter on Friday.
From now, she will be known as Ma Anandamayi.
Ranjitha was made a sanyasini (ascetic) during the 37th birthday functions of Nithyananda. Apart from the actress, 45 others also accepted sainthood from the swami at the colourful occasion at the ashram.
Ranjitha looked jubilant in a saffron Sari and blouse.
However, certain Kannada organisations staged protest against Nithyananda in front of the ashram and burnt his effigy. Police security was in place.
