Wandering woman and child held


KOZHIKODE: Police on Friday held a woman who had been roaming around the new bus stand for the past two days with a nine-year-old child.

The police said they could not confirm her name as she was making contradictory statements. She told the police that her name was Ambili and the child’s, Ranjith and they hailed from Alappuzha; later they changed the names to Shajitha and Shahal respectively during religious conversion.

When repeatedly questioned, she said he was her grandson and when pressed further she revealed that she had bought the child for Rs 50,000 from a couple in Alapra in Kottayam.

The police suspect that the woman might have stolen the child from his parents. However, the child has been sent to Vellimadukunnu Child line. The police have started probe to collect more details about the woman and child.
