Now, controversy over Leader's statue

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The life-size statue of former chief minister and the late Congress leader K Karunakaran, which was recently unveiled by President Pranab Mukherjee, became the subject of controversy on Monday.

Karunakaran’s daughter and Congress leader Padmaja Venugopal opined that the face of the statue didn’t look like her father. “It lacks his trade-mark pearly smile. The defect has been brought to the notice of the KPCC,” she added.
Karunakaran’s son and MLA K Muraleedharan also said that he too had pointed out the mistake much earlier.

The 12.5-feet statue was constructed by a famous sculptor from Manacaud, K S Sidhan, who was quick to accept the criticism. He said he was asked to complete the work in time for the president to unveil it when he was visiting the State. “The time was limited and I had to rush through... I would make necessary changes to the face,” he added.
