Relatives of Keralite family stuck in Pak seek help for release

KANNUR: Relatives of a Keralite family stranded in Pakistan submitted a memorandum to Minister of State Mullappally Ramachandran for their release. Haneef, a native of Panur in Kannur and his wife Hazeena are stuck in Pakistan. The memorandum was submitted to the minister by Haneef’s mother.

Haneef along with his wife went to Pakistan to sell the property of his father, a Pak citizen. The proceedings of the sale delayed and he got stuck there. In between a son was born to the couple. Even though an application was submitted in the Indian high commission of Pakistan to register the birth of the child as per the Indian Citizenship Act, the procedures were delayed. In recent times, a baby girl was also born to them.

The couple has so far not obtained the birth and emergency certificates of their children. Pakistan has asked the couple to leave the country as they haven’t obtained the emergency certificate and if not, they will be jailed.

But the high commission is of the stand that an emergency certificate can be issued only after a report is obtained from the Indian home ministry.
