Interpol nabs murder accused

KANNUR: Shammi Kumar, a native of Azhikode and accused in the murder of his wife, Ramya, at Payyannur here nearly four years ago, has been arrested by the Interpol in Abu Dhabi. Steps were being taken to bring him to the state and a team was expected to go to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to secure his custody, the police said. The murder case was being investigated by the Payyannur police. Though the accused had been nabbed by the Interpol in the UAE a couple of times earlier, he was released on technical grounds, the police said. Ramya was found dead in a hotel room at Payyannur in January 2010. The accused had checked-in at the hotel with his wife and their one-year-old child on January 20. Two days later, the cleaning staff found Ramya hanging from the ceiling of the room.
