Ex-SP’s son’s anticipatory bail plea: HC seeks govt’s stand

KOCHI: Kerala High Court has sought State government’s stand on the anticipatory bail petition filed by former SP K B Balachan’s son and Kawdiar resident Nikul Balachandran.

Nikul is an accused in several criminal cases. It was Justice Sunil Thomas who considered the bail plea on Thursday. Nikul is currently an accused in three cases which include the one in which he attacked Reserve Bank officer’s son and another in which he verbally abused women. He has been absconding for some time now.

After receiving a tip-off that Nikul reached Thiruvananthapuram on December 27, the museum police followed him and entered his Kowdiar house. But, he placed a sword at his mother’s neck and threatened to kill her if the police dared to arrest him. And, he dramatically escaped the arrest that day.

However, the police later faced criticism for allowing Nikul to escape in cinema style.
