Ration depots could be seized: Human Rights Commission

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If Wholesale Ration Depot owners do not withdraw strike, their depots should be seized, according to Essential Commodities Act, State Human Rights Commission chief J B Kosy has ordered. Such strikes should be confronted legally, he said.

The Commission observed that the strike called by Whole Sale Ration Dealers Federation had hampered the students’ midday meals and ration distribution for the poor. “This is violation of human rights. “Don’t think organisations can do anything according to their whims and fancies and trouble people as the Assembly election is nearing,” Koshy opined.
