Isolated incidents of violence in BJP hartal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The hartal called by the BJP to protest the murder of party activist Remith (27) at Pinarayi in Kannur is stated to be total. Apart from some isolated incidents no untoward incidents have been reported so far. Hartal protestors blocked some vehicles in Kochi, but two-wheelers were spared.

A house of a BJP activist in Kozhikode was set ablaze. Major damages were reported. Shops remain closed. KSRTC buses, autos, taxis and lorries kept off the road. Private vehicles were seen in the roads. Schools are not functioning. Attendances at government offices were reported to be thin. Police security has been beefed up in the state.

Examinations which were to be conducted have been postponed due to the hartal.
