Ration will reach the hands of poor: Minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Food Minister P Thilothaman said today that the government would take steps to make ration rice and wheat available to eligible persons, avoiding middlemen’s role in the Public distribution system.

“The rationing system is neck-deep in corruption and the government has taken up the challenge to cleanse the system. Rice and wheat allotted to the poor will reach their hands without any loss,” the minister was speaking at AIYF State conference.

“If any name of BPL cardholders has been left out, it will be included in the list. If names of people under APL category have sneaked into the list, it will be removed. Efforts are going on to find out the non-eligible persons figuring in the list. The former government botched up the public distribution system during their five-year tenure. We are trying to revive the system. Usually prices of essential commodities rise during Onam but this time, we were able to rein in the price,” the minister said.
