Swaralaya awards declared

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cultural Organisation Swaralaya has announced its awards for the year 2016. Eminent music director Ouseppachan has been chosen for Swaralaya-Kairali-Yesudas award and veteran playback singer Vani Jayaram will be given the award for overall her contribution to music.  

The award includes Rs One lakh, citation and statuette sculpted by Kanai Kunjiraman. The jury comprising Swaralaya chairman M A Baby, Dr Omanakutty, M Jayachandran, K V Mohan Kumar, Ravi Menon and G Raj Mohan selected the awardees.
Baby said at a press conference here on Sunday that K J Yesudas would present the award at the ‘Gandharva Sandhya‘ to be held  in Thiruvananthapuram this month end. Besides the award winners, about 20 singers will take part in the Gandharva Sandhya. Gulam Ali who will perform at the Ghazal Sandhya to be organised by Swaralaya in Thiruvananthapuram on January 15 will be given a warm reception on the previous day. The Ghazal Sandhya will be held at Nisha Gandhi auditorium.      
                   
In reply to a question, M A Baby said, “Swaralaya is trying to make a data bank of Yesudas’ songs. “Malayalis have to correct their laxity in preserving many valuable things. Swaralaya is also going ahead with its plans to establish music museum”.
