Two CPI (M) activists injured in explosion


KANNUR: Two CPI (M) activists were injured, one of them seriously, when a crude bomb was hurled at them by a group at Kovil-Pallipoyil near Chakkarakkal Sunday evening.

Police took custody of four bikes of BJP activists from the spot. According to police, CPI (M) worker Samesh (25) , who lost his left leg under the knee, due to the impact of the bomb attack was been admitted to a private hospital at Kozhikode. Another CPI (M) worker Rajesh (24) who also suffered minor injuries on hands was rushed to a private hospital here. Both hailed from Chakkarakkal.

Police said a six member gang came on four motor bikes and hurled bombs on the motorcycle which was being ridden by Samesh and Rajesh at about 1730 hrs at Kovil near Pallipoyil. After the attack, they fled from the scene abandoning their motorbikes, when the CPI (M) activists hurled stones at them. CPI (M) activists damaged the motorbikes after this incident. A large number of police were camping at the site. Tension prevailed at Chakkarakkal and nearby areas.
