THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The vigilance court issued special order to register a case against police, revenue officials and granite mafia for illegally mining and smuggling it worth 5.10 crores. Judge John K Illikkadan consented to the recommendation of the vigilance DySP that four cases be registered against the accused.
The report filed by vigilance DySP Nandanam Pillai is a grievous accusation against the 14 accused, among whom are former Attingal resurvey assistant director AVasu, former Thiruvananthapuram ADM VJayaprakash, former tahsildar of Chiraayankeezhu Madhu Gangadharan, former CBI Anil Kumar from Attingal, former village officer of Nagaroor, Shylaja and quarry owner Kurukku Sashi alias Shashi. The court also ordered a probe to ascertain how former CBI official Anil Kumar amassed wealth that surpasses his income.
The mining has been carried out in the 11acres of land that was illegally doled out to certain private individuals. The court also held that A. Vasu, former survey superintendent Bharati, surveyor Shukkoor and Renjith, a resident of Plammoodu, Pattom must be charged in accordance with the anti-corruption law. The sub inspector is alleged to have framed a fake case against the local residents who protested against the quarrying. The court also gave directions to register cases against Anil Kumar, civil police officer Jihanil Hakim, senior civil police officer Sathyasandhan on charges of conspiracy and forging false documents and also against Nedumpana gramma panchayat secretary V.Suresh and LD clerk Unnikrishnan for aiding Renjith Bhasi of Attingal to procure illegal license for granite mining.
