KASARGOD: The district sessions Court on Tuesday sentenced a man to 10-year rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting his granddaughter in the district.
Kasargod District Sessions Judge M J Shakthidharan awarded the sentence to Maruthi (45), a native of Davengare in Karnataka, after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting the five-year old girl on April 17, 2013. The incident came to light when the child was admitted in the hospital in a weak condition.
The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 2,000 on the accused in the case tried for the first time under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act 2012.
