KOTTAYAM: CPM should stop such protest methods that would put the common people in trouble, Kerala Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said at a press conference here on Saturday. “The practice adopted in protests like blocking the public road, as in the case of the Cliff house siege, is wrong,” he said.
“What is the point in blocking the chief minister’s official residence when he is attending a function in Thrissur? Such blockade will only help in adding to the people’s woes. CPM’s such agitations are a farce. Housewife Sandhya’s outburst was just a manifestation of the public’s anger against such annoying blockades,” the minister said.
‘Rights of the prisoners will be taken care of’
The home minister has said that in spite of the recent developments in the Kozhikode jail, the rights of the prisoners will be protected. Though the jail security has been beefed up, the government is not amending or bringing in new jail rules. On the other hand, the government will see to it that the existing rules are strictly implemented.
The minister said: “In order to allow prisoners to make phone calls, coin-box telephoning facility will be provided. If the visitors bring more than a pair of clothes for the prisoners, it could be deposited with the welfare officer. Not only MLAs but anyone can make jail visits as per jail rules. Mobile detector will be installed and special training will be given to jail officials to check CCTV visuals. Functioning of jails in the State will be coordinated by a control room based at Thiruvananthapuram.
He also added that jails will not stop ‘chappathi making’.
