Body of Niranjan reaches hometown, cremation tomorrow

MANNARCAUD: The body of Lieutenant Colonel E K Niranjan, a bomb expert with the National Security Guard (NSG) who was killed while defusing a grenade at the scene of the terror attack at Pathankot IAF base, reached his hometown Palakkad. The body brought from Bangalore in Air Force’ special helicopter reached Palakkad at 4 pm. His relatives too accompanied the body.

The body arrived at Bengaluru International Airport early this morning between 12.40 am and 1 am. After completing the proceedings, the body was handed over to his relatives. The body was kept at his house in Bangalore for the people to pay homage. The helicopter carrying the body of Niranjan reached Palakkad Victoria College Grounds at 4 pm.   The body was later taken to Mannarcaud by road.

His body will be kept at the KAUP School at Elambulasseri tomorrow morning. The body will be later cremated at his ancestral house Kalarikkal with full state honours tomorrow evening. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will pay homage to the body.  

Niranjan, head of the elite bomb squad of the NSG, was killed while defusing an IED at Pathankot IAF base, yesterday.
