CPM not against development: Pinarayi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM Politburo member Pinarayi said on Friday that the party would present a concept on Kerala’s new development culture at the fourth International Kerala Study Congress to be held on January 9 and 10.

“Discussions regarding State’s development will be held at constituency level in February. The matters discussed there will form the basis of the party’s manifesto for the assembly election,” Pinarayi was speaking to media persons on Friday morning in his capacity as the chairman of Study.

He said the CPM is often branded as antidevelopment party. But at any point of time, the party had not opposed development. “When issues like acquiring of private land for development projects affect the commoners, the government should come forward to address their grievances. The development work should be taken up only after solving their issues,” he said, adding that the CPM is not against Vizhinjam project and if it is elected to power, contract with Adani will not be cancelled.”
