Medical, Engg entrance exams from April 25 to 28


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The entrance examination for admission to medical/ engineering professional degree courses in Kerala in 2016 will be held from April 25 to 28 at 350 centres across Kerala as well as Mumbai, Delhi and Dubai.

The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations is expecting 1,75,000 students to apply for the entrance examinations this year, up from 1,60,343 applications last year. Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb and commissioner B S Maoji told media persons that the number of seats for the MBBS course was 2,900 while the BDS course had 1660 seats. A total of 58,836 seats are available for the engineering stream.

The number of seats for other courses in the medical stream are as follows: BAMS (Ayurveda)- 900, BHMS (Homoeo)- 250, BSMS (Siddha)- 50, B.Sc Agriculture- 209, B.Sc. Forestry- 30, BVSc.& AH- 260, BFSc. (Fisheries)- 55. In the Engineering stream, the number of seats is: B.Tech. (Agricultural engineering)- 49, B.Tech. (Food Engineering)- 30, B.Tech. (Dairy science and technology)- 180, B.Tech. (Food technology)- 40, Architecture – 1,240.

Admission to engineering courses would be based on normalisation of marks scored in the entrance test and marks of the qualifying examination, as in the previous year. Students may apply online through the website of the Commissioner for Entrance Exams from January 3 to 29. The printout and related documents are to be submitted at the office of the commissioner before January 30.

The security cards and prospectus will be available at 168 post offices in and outside the State from January 2.

The application fee is Rs1,000 for the general category and Rs.500 for Scheduled Castes.

The Minister said students belonging to Scheduled Tribes had been exempted from payment of fees for the application.
