Tearful adieu to Lt Col Niranjan

PALAKKAD: A tearful adieu was given to Lt Colonel E K Niranjan Kumar, who died on Sunday while defusing a grenade after terrorists attacked an air force base in Pathankot, at his hometown Palakkad. He was cremated with full state honours at his ancestral house in Mannarcaud. Ministers Ramesh Chennithala and A P Anil Kumar and BJP state Chief Kummanam Rajashekaran attended the cremation.  Three sections of the army saluted him.

The body of the martyr was kept at the Elambulasseri KAUP School from 7 am to 11 am for the people to pay homage. People from different walks of life paid homage to the departed soul.  The body was later shifted to his ancestral house. His cremation was held under tight security.  

The body was brought from Bengaluru in a helicopter last evening and grounded at the Palakkad Victoria College Grounds. It was later taken to his ancestral house in Mannarcaud. The team from Bengaluru reached Palakkad in two helicopters. His wife Dr K G Radhika, daughter Vismaya, father Sivarajan, brothers Sharat Chandran, sister Bhagyalakshmi, Shasankan, father in law Gopalakrishnan, brother in law Mahesh and senior army officers etc accompanied the body.
